Midori is named Artistic Director of the Ravinia Steans Music Institute Piano & String Program

Ravinia has announced the appointment of esteemed violinist Midori as the Artistic Director of Ravinia Steans Music Institute’s Piano & Strings program, effective this fall to begin overseeing the 2024 summer season. Midori will succeed the acclaimed violinist Miriam Fried, who has held that position since 1994, following the tenures of the late Robert Mann (1988) and Walter Levin (1989–93). Midori’s International Community Engagement Program (ICEP) is recruiting musicians for 2023 (Laos) and 2024 (Japan) If you are a violinist, violist or cellist between the ages of 20 and 29 with a strong interest in community engagement activities, you may wish to apply to join Midori for the December 2023 ICEP in Laos and June 2024 follow-up in Japan. Midoris International Community Engagement Program (ICEP) sucht MusikerInnen für 2023 (Laos) und 2024 (Japan). Wenn Sie ViolinistIn, BratschistIn oder CellistIn im Alter zwischen 20 und 29 Jahren sind und ein starkes Interesse an gemeinnützigen Aktivitäten haben, möchten Sie sich vielleicht für das ICEP im Dezember 2023 in Laos und im Juni 2024 in Japan bewerben. In einem Auswahlverfahren wird für jedes Instrument ein/e InstrumentalistIn ausgewählt, der zusammen mit Midori ein Quartett bildet, das Auftritte in Schulen, Waisenhäusern, Krankenhäusern und verschiedenen anderen Einrichtungen für Jugendliche und ältere Menschen anbieten wird. Studierende des afghanischen Nationalen Musikinstituts und des Konservatoriums Calouste Gulbenkian nehmen an Midoris “International Orchestra Residencies Program” teil

Midoris jüngste Veranstaltung im Rahmen des “International Orchestra Residencies Program” (ORP) fand Ende Februar und Anfang März 2023 in Braga, Portugal, in Zusammenarbeit mit dem Konservatorium Calouste Gulbenkian statt. Seit 2022 beherbergt das Konservatorium das Afghanistan National Institute of Music (ANIM), dessen Studierende und Dozenten nach der Machtübernahme durch die Taliban im Jahr 2021 evakuiert wurden. Die Taliban verboten das nicht-religiöse Musizieren im Land, übernahmen die ANIM-Schule und zerstörten die Instrumente der Musikstudenten. Nach zwei Wochen intensiver Arbeit mit Midori gaben die Studierenden des Konservatoriums und des afghanischen Jugendorchesters am 5. März ein Konzert. Afghan National Institute of Music students and students of the Conservatory Calouste Gulbenkian take part in Midori’s International Orchestra Residencies Program

Midori’s latest International Orchestra Residencies Program (ORP) took place in Braga, Portugal in collaboration with the Conservatory Calouste Gulbenkian in late February and early March 2023. Since 2022, the Conservatory has provided a home for the Afghanistan National Institute of Music (ANIM), whose students and faculty were evacuated after the Taliban assumed power in 2021.  The Taliban forbade non-religious music making in the country, took over the ANIM school and destroyed the music students’ instruments. On March 5th, following two intense weeks of working with Midori, students from both the Conservatory and the Afghan Youth Orchestra took part in a concert. 30th Anniversary Gala for Midori & Friends

On February 15th, Midori & Friends held a Gala celebrating three decades of providing tuition-free music education programs in New York City. Midori & Friends is the first non-profit organization that Midori founded. She was just 21 years old. Over the ensuing years, Midori & Friends has provided high-quality sequential music education in over 80 New York City schools and organizations to 300,000 students from Pre-Kindergarten to age 12 who had little or no previous access to the arts. Im Jahre 1720 ist Johann Sebastian Bach Kapellmeister am Hof des Fürsten Leopold von Anhalt-Cöthen. Als Musiker in der frühen Mitte seiner Karriere und eher als Organist denn als Komponist bekannt, beschäftigte sich Bach während seines sechsjährigen Aufenthalts in Cöthen mit der Komposition einiger seiner wichtigsten Instrumentalwerke (und nicht mit den religiösen Vokalkompositionen, die seine Arbeit an anderen Orten in solcher Fülle verlangte), während er gleichzeitig die üblichen Aufgaben eines Musikdirektors an einem weltlichen Hof erfüllte – spielen, proben, aufführen und dirigieren – und seine Führungsrolle als oberster Musiker der Stadt wahrnahm.
