MIDORI PREMIERES A SECOND WORK COMPOSED FOR HER BY DETLEV GLANERT
On 24 and 25 September 2026, Midori appeared with violinist Renaud Capuçon, the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra and conductor Semyon Bychkov in the world premiere of Detlev Glanert’s Concerto for Two Violins and Orchestra.
It is the second work that Glanert has composed for Midori. The first was his Violin Concerto No. 2 “To the Immortal Beloved,” which Midori premiered in 2021 and has since performed in the UK, Germany, Turkey and Japan.
The movements of the new work are titled Oracle, Sphinx, and Chimera.
The two solo parts are intricately intertwined in a work the composer describes as a kind of “surrealist concerto grosso”.
“It contains everything a violinist’s heart could desire:
Soulful cantilenas, rapid-fire arpeggios, and
excursions into stratospheric heights.”
Leipziger Volkszeitung
Midori and Renaud Capuçon will give the Austrian premiere of the new concerto in March 2027 in Linz and Vienna with the Bruckner Orchestra Linz under Jonathan Nott.
